The following counties have been placed under the flood watch:

  • Lamar
  • Fayette
  • Walker
  • Pickens
  • Tuscaloosa
  • Sumter
  • Greene
  • Hale
  • Perry
  • Bibb

According to the National Weather Service, excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may also occur in poor drainage and urban areas.

The expectation is for rainfall totaling between two to five inches, with locally higher amounts likely.

According to James Spann, chief meteorologist for ABC 33/40 and Townsquare Media, rain is widespread across Alabama this afternoon with the exception of the southeast part of the state. A flash flood watch will remain in effect tonight for the central and southern counties.

Townsquare media will continue to have coverage of inclement weather.
