Alabama Weather: Damaging Winds and Hail Threat Kick Off April
There is potential for strong to severe storms across portions of Alabama. The Townsquare Media Weather Center is monitoring a cold front, which is expected to move across portions of Alabama soon.
Timeline
Currently, the timing of the cold front moving across portions of northern Central Alabama is on Tuesday. James Spann, ABC 33/40, and Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Chief Meteorologist, said the “main chance of showers and storms Tuesday will come from about 3:00 p.m. until midnight.”
Risk Areas
According to the Storm Prediction Center, a portion of Alabama is under a “slight risk” of severe thunderstorms. Then, the remainder of the state is under a “marginal risk.”
Possible Threats
The National Weather Service in Birmingham said the potential threats for this active weather system would come from damaging winds up to 60 mph and quarter-sized hail.
Is There a Tornado Threat?
“The core tornado threat will be north of Alabama, where better dynamic support and shear will be in place,” said Spann.
As severe weather season is here, it’s a great reminder to check back often for any updates because as weather conditions change, this could impact our Townsquare Media coverage area of Bibb, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Lamar, Perry, Pickens, Sumter, Tuscaloosa, and Walker counties.
