Alabama Vehicle Thieves Blame Victims For “Doors Unlocked”
It is a big problem.
Trucks, Cars, and SUVs stolen across West Alabama.
Many times they are stolen from an apartment complex.
The good news?
Car thefts are down in the Tuscaloosa area. According to the Tuscaloosa Police Department, vehicle theft has decreased over 50% over the last 5 years.
Of course here in the Tuscaloosa area, we have special investigators dedicated to solving any vehicle thefts that occur in our region.
The news of vehicle thefts being down in West Alabama is great unless you have had your automobile stolen in the last 5 years.
In 2023 the Tuscaloosa area had a couple of weekends with multiple thefts reported. Now, the actual vehicle wasn't stolen, but we had a rash of break-ins. The Tuscaloosa Police Department said they had between 20 and 30 break-ins on one weekend.
Earlier this year four masked thieves stole around $300,000 in vehicles from a car dealership's parking lot.
The vehicles taken were all very expensive and all of them cost $60,000 or more.
That's why I was so blown away by a reporter who actually spoke to some Alabama vehicle thieves.
She interviewed them about why they do what they do. What is the motivation? Outside of the obvious, that is.
One of the thieves is only 13 years old.

So, they claim it is really the victim's fault that they had their car stolen.
I wonder what folks who have had their vehicles stolen think about this.
