A Deadly TikTok Trend Is Killing Alabamians
We all have social media outlets; one of the maximum famous is TikTok. We see trends on TikTok, like lip-syncing to the newest song or doing the newest dance. However, some trends are deadly to our health and lives.
One such trend is the “Boat jumping” trend, in which someone jumps from a boat running quickly across the water. There have been confirmed deaths in the last six months in Alabama, as reported by ABC3340.
Captain Dennis of the Childersburg Rescue Squad told ABC3340 “They were doing a TikTok challenge. It’s where you get in a boat going at a high rate of speed, you jump off the side of the boat, don’t dive, you’re jumping off feet first and you just kinda lean into the water,"
The danger in this trend is that the person doing the jumping, if they land wrong, their neck could be broken, and they could either be paralyzed or suffer death instantly.
Captain Dennis has significant concerns over the trend and the possibility of it growing in popularity. He told ABC 3340, “That is a very big concern because we have seen this pattern emerge over the last two years and it’s sporadic, but it’s something that needs to go away and stay away. “
The ages vary for this challenge; one of the earlier victims of the trend was a husband and father of three. Regretfully the video shot of him doing this latest TikTok challenge was the video of his death.
