Tide Falls in OT to Michigan

No. 4 Alabama failed to advanc to the CFP Finals thanks to a 27-20 overtime loss to  Michigan at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA. The Wolverines now face the Texas/Washington winner in Houston Jan. 8.

Alabama had every chance to win the game but could not close the deal with the season on the line.

After Michigan fumbled a punt at its 44, Jase McClellan raced 34 yeard to put Alabama up 7-0 with still 9:41 left in the opening quarter. McCellan missed the SECCG but returned from his injury vs. the Wolverines.

Michigan responded with a 75-yard march to tie matters at 7 on an 8-yard pass from JJ McCarthy to Blake Corum late in the opening quarter.

Michigan took a 13-7 lead on a 38-yard TD pass from JJ McCarthy to Tyler Morris, but Bama responded with a 50-yard Will Reichard field goal. Michigan botched the PAT on its touchdown due to a bad snap.

Michigan led 12-10 at half. Jalen Milroe was sacked five times in the first 30 minutes.

In the second half, the Tide began to turn.

Milroe led a 55-yard drive that McClellan capped with a 4-yard run with 14:30 left in the game and Bama was up 17-13.

With 4:41 to go, Reichard booted a 52-yarder for a 20-13 lead and broke Leigh Tiffin's record for career UA field goals.

Michigan marched 75 yards to tie the game and forced a Bama punt. James Burnip's boomer pinned the Wolverines on thier one-yard line and the game headed to overtime.

Michigan sdored easily on a Blake Corum run.

On fourth-and-goal form the 3, Milroe tried a quarterback draw and the Wolverines stoopped him. Ball game. End of season.

Alabama finished 12-2.
