Former Alabama QB Signs With UFL

A former Alabama quarterback has made his return to the gridiron as a starter in the UFL.

A.J. McCarron, a two-time national champion as a starter for Alabama, was released by the Cincinnati Bengals on February 14. Many people reported it was so he could re-join the new UFL's St. Louis Battlehawks after leading them to a 7-3 finish last season.

The reports were true, as McCarron has officially re-signed with the Battlehawks to return to St. Louis for the 2024 season.

McCarron and the Battlehawks were among the best teams in the XFL in 2023, although they did not qualify for the playoffs under the XFL model.

The XFL recently merged with the USFL, creating the UFL featuring teams from both leagues, including the St. Louis Battlehawks and the two-time USFL champion Birmingham Stallions.

McCarron and the Battlehawks will play at Birmingham this season, marking his return to the state of Alabama as a professional football player. Last season, McCarron completed 68.8% of his passes for 2,150 yards and had 21 touchdowns against 6 interceptions. He also rushed for 100 yards and a touchdown in the 10-week season. He missed one game due to injury.

McCarron's best game came in week 10 against the Orlando Guardians. He completed 80% of his passes for 420 yards and six touchdowns in the win.

Alabama's three-time national champion quarterback will play football once again.
