The community surrounding the University of Alabama mourns the passing of another former athletic director and former Tide star.

According to Gary Harris of WVUA 23 and Tide 100.9, former Alabama defensive back and Director of Athletics Cecil "Hootie" Ingram has passed away at the age of 90.

Ingram was a defensive back at Alabama from 1952 to 1954. He was named All-SEC during the 1952 season.

After his playing days in Tuscaloosa, Ingram spent one season with the Philadelphia Eagles. After his playing days were over, Ingram took to the coaching ranks, spending the 1956 season as the backfield coach for Manatee High School in Florida. He then returned to Tuscaloosa County to coach Brookwood High School. He spent a season there before returning to the city of Tuscaloosa to coach Tuscaloosa County High School from 1958 to 1959.

In 1960, Ingram returned to the college ranks, coaching defensive backs at Wake Forest, VPI, Georgia, and Arkansas. In 1970, he became the head coach of the Clemson Tigers until 1972.

In 1981, Ingram took to the Athletic Director ranks. He started at Florida State in 1981 and remained with the Seminoles until he took the Alabama job in 1989. He remained as Alabama's Athletic Director until 1995.

In 1991, Ingram was inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame, and in 1999, he was inducted into the Orange Bowl Hall of Fame. In 2007, the University of Alabama National Alumni Association presented Ingram with the Paul W. Bryant Alumni-Athlete Award.
