Eli Gold Set to Return to Broadcast Booth This Fall
After a tumultuous year of health issues, Alabama football and sports broadcasting radio icon Eli Gold is gearing up to return to the broadcasting booth for the upcoming Crimson Tide football season, per WWE Hall of Fame announcer Jim Ross.
Gold initially stepped away in order to deal with orthopedic issues that made it overly difficult for him to navigate the broadcast booth of Bryant-Denny Stadium and the away venues the Tide played at.
“I wanted to take a moment to point out I’m not sick. Some people may perceive that. I’m not sick. I have orthopedic issues. A lot of people who have seen me at baseball games, football games, whatever, know that I have had trouble getting around the last couple of years. It was time to get that taken care of," said Gold on the Crimson Tide Sports Network during a pregame show back in September.
Gold was temporarily replaced this past season by Chris Stewart, who's primary duty prior to the shuffle was being one of the Alabama men's basketball team's radio announcers, along side Bryan Passink.
"I want to thank everyone for their well wishes and prayers. After extensive testing, I have now been diagnosed of a treatable form of cancer. I’m already making progress and hope to get back behind the mic again soon. Roll Tide!" said Gold at the time.
Now, Tide fans will finally get that familiar favorite voice back on their radio waves.
