Patrick Murpny's Team 28 of Alabama softball closed out its fall schedule Sunday afternoon at Rhoads Stadium with a doubleheader against Chipola College, winning 9-0 and 11-1.

The Crimson Tide scored 87 runs over its eight fall games while not allowing more than two runs in any game. Sunday’s finale against Chipola marked the fourth game with 10 or more runs scored.

After playing four doubleheaders against junior college teams, Bama wrapped up fall ball with an 8-0 record. None of the games were close, which is to be expected.

Sunday highlights included

Pitchers L:auren Esman and Jocelyn Briski combined for 7.0 shutout innings in the circle in game one with six strikeouts and just three hits allowed.

Outfielder Jenna Johnson had two hits in game one and drove in a run with a bases-loaded walk.

Third baseman Emma Broadfoot hit her second home run of the fall in game two, a two-run blast in the bottom of the third. Her power seems to have increased from last season.

Catcher/outfielder Marlie Giles was 3-for-4 with three RBIs in game two, with Jenna's younger sister and fellow outfielder Lauren Johnson also raking three hits including an RBI triple.

Broadfoot, Kali Heivilin, ACA grad Kat Grill and Kinley Pate also had multi-hit performances in game two.

In the injury comeback department, after earning a pinch-hit RBI single on Friday, KJ Haney had two more RBI singles on Sunday giving her a 3-for-3 line with three RBIs in three appearances this fall. Haney could contend for the DP role, the softball version of baseball's DH.

Pitchers Kayla Beaver and Alea Johnson each had five strikeouts in game two, with Johnson going nine-up, nine-down over 3.0 innings pitched. Beaver has hit 70 on the radar gun several times this fall, which is Montana Fouts territory. Johnson is an LSU transfer.

With Beaver, Johnson, Esman, freshman Briski and returner Jaala Torrence, Murphy has one of the deepest pitching staffs he's had since taking over as head coach prior to year three of the 28 years Bama has fielded a team.
