Alabama Freshman DB Enters Portal

Alabama's defensive back room has struggled with depth, with several true freshmen set to play roles for Alabama in the Fall. True freshman Zabien Brown was starting at cornerback for Alabama during the Tide's A-Day scrimmage, and Red Morgan played meaningful snaps at Alabama's new "Husky" position with the first-team and second-team defense.

One of Alabama's true freshman safeties is set to play somewhere else than where he originally signed in December as an early enrollee. According to Pete Nakos of On3 Sports, Alabama freshman defensive back Peyton Woodyard has entered the transfer portal with a "Do Not Contact" designation.

Woodyard played at deep safety for Alabama's second-team defense during the Tide's A-Day scrimmage. Woodyard, 6-foot-2, 188 pounds, graduated from St. John Bosco in Fullerton, California. Woodyard was originally committed to Georgia but recommitted on August 8, 2023. He committed to Alabama on the same day and signed with the Crimson Tide on December 20, early national signing day.

The Crimson Tide did land a commitment from safety transfer Kameron Howard, who played in 12 games for the Charlotte 49ers in 2023. While his commitment helps the lack of depth, Woodyard's transfer leaves the Tide in the same spot it was in before the commitment.
