The spring transfer portal has officially opened, meaning that Alabama is now able to have players transfer into the program, as well as out of it. Some players who leave will be expected, but in the modern era of college football, fans have to always be prepared for a surprise exit. Will Alabama football have any surprises this time around in the transfer portal?

The Crimson Tide are expected to address some needs in the portal as well. We already know Kadyn Proctor is expected to return to Alabama because of a report from earlier this spring, but not Proctor's move can become official and he can return to Alabama. Still, expect Alabama to do their due diligence if any offensive linemen appear interested. Additionally, defensive back is another room Alabama is expected to bolster in the transfer portal. They already have some transfers in that room, with Domani Jackson from USC transferring in before Alabama's loss to Michigan in the Rose Bowl, and Keon Sabb from Michigan transferring to Alabama after Jim Harbaugh was hired away by the Los Angeles Chargers. Alabama could still address the lack of experience in the defensive backfield in the transfer portal. Malachi Moore is the only returning starter from a season ago, Domani Jackson only has 18 games of experience under his belt, while Sabb only has four starts in his career. DeVonta Smith has no starts, although he is entering his fourth year with Alabama, and freshman Zabien Brown started at cornerback opposite of Jackson. At Husky, Red Morgan is another freshman who could make an early impact.

Don't be shocked if Alabama does some homework on the wide receiver position too. Germie Bernard had a huge A-Day, but outside of him, Alabama's receivers left a lot to be desired. Jalen Hale was expected to be a part of that room, but his lower-body injury suffered on March 26 is expected to keep him out for the majority of the season. Ryan Williams and Caleb Odom will have a chance to make an impact as freshmen, but relying on freshmen receivers who are unproven at the college level is not always a recipe for success. Alabama could potentially lose bodies in that room too, so getting some more experience wouldn't be a bad call.

A couple of notable things about the spring transfer window:

The portal is open for 15 days, from April 16 to April 30. Players who wish to transfer must enter their name in the portal before the deadline. Additionally, SEC players can not transfer within conference during the Spring window, unless granted a waiver by the NCAA.
