Alabama Football Lands DB Transfer
The Alabama Football defensive back room has a lack of experience and depth after the departure of three starters to the NFL draft (all were drafted) and one starter to the transfer portal. The Tide have been linked to several players in the transfer portal, most notably, transfer defensive back Ed Woods who visited Alabama over the weekend. However, Alabama also has been linked to others in the transfer portal, and now, they have another commitment from the transfer portal.
According to his X (Formerly Twitter) page, Charlotte defensive back Kameron Howard has committed to the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Howard played in all 12 games for Charlotte last season, starting three. He totaled 38 tackles, two interceptions, and one pass breakup. According to PFF College, Howard spent 171 of his defensive snaps either in the box or the slot, compared to 167 snaps at deep safety last season. Both positions needed depth, with Alabama returning just one defensive back from last season: Malachi Moore.
Howard stands at 5-foot-11 and 189 pounds according to ESPN. If he plays at deep safety, he will provide depth behind Malachi Moore and Keon Sabb. If he plays in the box, similar to Coach Saban's "star" position in past defenses, he'll likely play behind DeVonta Smith and compete with Red Morgan for playing time.
Alabama is still waiting to see what happens with Arizona State defensive back Ed Woods, who is set to visit Michigan State after his visit to Alabama over the weekend.
