ACA Final Four Bound
How 'bout them Patriots? If it wasn't such a busy street, they'd be dancing in the middle of Veterans Memorial Parkway. And who could blame fans of ACA?
The American Christian boys basketball team downed rival Hale County 51-48 on Wednesday in the boys Class 4A AHSAA central regional final at Bill Harris Arena. This was the Patriots third victory over the Wildcats this season. That's hard to do.
ACA three sport start Davis Dare scored a game-highs 23 points to continue his incredible season, but he had help. Eric Hines added 14 points, 13 rebounds, two blocks and one steal. As a team the Pats shot 60% from the floor and missed but two free throws in the contest.
The ACA defense did not allow any Wildcat players to score in double digits, also tough to do. Observers noted that despite the Wildcats having an inside size advantage, the Patriots won the backboard battle and scored 38 points inside the paint.
To its credit, Hale County outscored the ACA 10-3 in the fourth quarter to tie the game in the final two minutes. However, American Christian closed out the game shooting 81% from the free-throw line to ice its Final Four journey.
ACA now will play Deshler at 4:30 p.m. CT. Feb. 27. at Legacy Arena in Birmingham, formerly known as the BJCC.
