Hallelujah, ‘Avengers 4’ Finally Has An Official Title
Last year, Joe Russo told UPROXX that the title of Avengers 4, whatever it was going to be, was not spoken aloud in Avengers: Infinity War. That eliminated a lot of possibilities, including Avengers: Infinity Gauntlet and Avengers: BUCKY NOOOOOO.
It also ruled out one of the most pervasive rumors for the Avengers 4 title, Avengers: Endgame, because those words (or word, I guess) are (is) spoken in the movie. In the scene where Strange, Iron Man, and the Guardians of the Galaxy try and fail to destroy Thanos, Strange says, right after he finally forks over his Time Stone...
So either Joe Russo forgot the dialogue in his own movie, or he just straight-up lied to preserve the secret. Either way, as the brand-new Avengers 4 trailer finally revealed, the full official title for the biggest superhero movie of all time is indeed Avengers: Endgame.
Here’s the official trailer for Avengers: BUCKY NOOOOOO — oh no, my bad. Avengers: Endgame, sorry.
The title certainly connotes the end of an era in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the studio has insisted all along that the MCU will be totally different after this movie. Within the story of the film, it could refer to a few things. Obviously Captain America and Black Widow have some kind of plan to save the world, whatever it might be. (And it seems to involve Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man.) That could be their endgame. But also don’t forget that before Strange forked his Infinity Stone over to Thanos he used it to see millions of possible futures, with just one where Thanos loses. Handing over his Stone and letting him “win,” at least in the short-term, could mean this is Strange’s true endgame. (Even though he is a big pile of dust at the moment.)
Avengers: Endgame opens in April 26— not May 3, 2019, as had been previously announced before today’s new trailer surprised us all.
