Britney Spears Asks for ‘All the Wishes and Prayers’ for Sister Jamie Lynn’s Daughter
Following an ATV accident on Sunday (Feb. 5), pop star Britney Spears used Facebook to ask her fans for prayers for her niece Maddie, daughter of country artist Jamie Lynn Spears.
On Monday afternoon (Feb. 6), Britney Spears shared on Facebook a sweet photo of her niece, requesting "all the wishes and prayers" for her as she recovers after overturning the ATV on which she was riding on Sunday afternoon. According to a report from the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office, 8-year-old Maddie was trying to avoid running over a drainage ditch and overcorrected her course, running her ATV into a pond; deputies responded to the emergency call, along Highway 51 in Fluker, La., around 3PM on Sunday.
Jamie Lynn Spears and her husband, Jamie Watson, along with other family members, were about 100 yards away when Maddie crashed; it is unknown if Britney Spears was among those at the scene. Jamie Lynn Spears and Watson, Maddie's stepfather, tried to rescue her, but, officials say, she was trapped by the ATV's seatbelt and safety netting. An ambulance arrived within two minutes and freed Maddie, who is in stable but critical condition, according to officials' most recent report.
Spears herself has yet to comment on the accident; she shares custody of Maddie with the girl's father, Casey Aldridge. Spears became pregnant with Maddie in 2007, at the age of 16; the singer and Aldridge, then girlfriend and boyfriend, got engaged in the spring of 2008, and Maddie was born in June of that year. However, the couple called off their engagement in the spring of 2009, and their relationship officially ended in early 2010. Spears married Watson in 2014.
Spears released her most recent single, "Sleepover," in June of 2016.
