Brian Robinson Sparks Alabama’s Offense on Saturday

In the home opener against Mercer, Alabama’s early game struggles on offense nearly derailed their defense’s pitch perfect first quarter. The defense gave Mercer fits and caused two early three and outs.   Alabama looked just as bad against Mercer’s defense committing two three and outs themselves. The Tide's first two drive featured offensive line missing blocks, incomplete passes from first year starting quarterback Bryce Young, and a huge dropped pass by Ohio State transfer Jameson Williams. During Bama’s early offensive struggles, there’s one player who stepped up the most and tried to get the offense in rhythm. It was none other than Tuscaloosa’s very own, Brian Robinson Jr.

In the early part of the game, Robinson Jr. made pivotal plays trying to provide a spark for the offense. The fifth year senior came up big for Alabama on third down for the tide catching a 10-yard pass for first down, he ate up the Mercer defense on ground as well rushing for seven yards per carry during the first quarter. A punt block for a touchdown by backup tail back Jase McClellan was what they needed to get the momentum back their side.

On the Tide's following possession after the special team touchdown, the offense finally got on the board with a rushing touchdown by Hillcrest Alum Brian Robinson. Robinson wasn’t done there. On the next drive he helped set up the second offensive touchdown of the day. Slot receiver Slade Bolden caught a short pass from QB Bryce Young and jumped over a defender for the first of two second quarter touchdowns. Robinson was looking like a early player of the game candidate up until McClellan’s second touchdown on the day. Brian Robinson Jr. finished with 70 yards rushing on 10 attempts and a handful of clutch plays.
