I used to be one of those people who swore I would never let my child play with my phone or tablet while we were in the waiting room of the doctor's office, out to eat at a restaurant, or even cuddled up on the couch. Then I actually had a child. Now I welcome any and all educational apps with open arms (and a hint of desperation). What are the best apps for little bitties? Let's take a look at my current favorite.

Peekaboo Barn Best Apps for Baby

Night and Day Studio's 'Peekaboo Barn' is my daughter's favorite app. It's received glowing reviews from TIME and Babble, just to name a few. It's the best $1.99 I've ever spent. I love it.

Check out the official description of the app below: "Inside a little bouncing barn, friendly farm animals are waiting to pop out and surprise your little one. Try and guess who they are; tap the doors to find out!

Work with your child to learn the names of animals and hear the sounds they make. Younger children will love opening the barn doors to find a new animal animation, as they learn about cause and effect and become familiar with animal names and sounds. Older children will enjoy guessing animals by sound, then seeing the animal names, which helps develop early literacy skills."

The most recent updates of the app allow your child to learn up to NINE different languages. NINE. That means that not only is my daughter entertained, she's learning something, too.

Dolores loves Peekaboo Barn. Her little face lights up each time I start the app and she hears its opening song. She's just ten months old, and Peekaboo Barn is helping her to refine her motor skills and establish a sense of object permanence. That's a good thing.

Check out Peekaboo Barn in the App Store for iPhone or Google Play for Android, and learn more in the demo video below.
