22 Tuscaloosa Businesses Violated Reopening Rules
This week several Tuscaloosa businesses reopened for the first time since closing due to COVID-19. Mayor Walt Maddox spoke on Tuscaloosa bars and what could happen if they're found not complying with the rules of reopening. This week, 22 Tuscaloosa businesses were caught violating the rules.
According to ABC 33/40, Tuscaloosa Police and Fire Rescue paid a visit to businesses around Tuscaloosa and caught 22 of them violating the reopening rules set by the Alabama Department Of Public Health. Violations came mostly from bars and restaurants in the area. Violation can be subject to a $500 fine. Fire Rescue Chief Paul Randy Smith spoke on not handing out any fines although there were violations found. "We educated them, that's going to be our first step, and then we'll actually enforce as needed." A list of the safety measures put in place by the Alabama Department Of Public health can be found on their website for businesses and patrons to view.
Although the state is slowly opening back up, we must keep in mind that the Coronavirus is still out there. We have to do our part to stay safe and keep others safe as well. Wearing masks, washing our hands, and staying home if sick are all things that still apply. Chief Paul Randy Smith stated, "It's not time to get too relaxed. The threat is still there, the risk is still there, so we need to take precaution." I couldn't agree more with that statement. Please continue to be safe and practice social distancing while you're out around Tuscaloosa.
