All of those rallies really did make a difference, as officials at UAB announced it will bring back the football program.  Did you know there is more than football making a return?

Check this out, the UAB press release came with this headline, 'UAB president announces planned return of football, bowling and rifle.'  Really, bowling and riffle too?  Great day!

Have you ever experienced a college bowling tailgate?  There's plenty of flat beer on tap to go around and pizza that tastes like microwave cardboard layered with a tomato sauce.  Amazing.

How about a riffle tailgate?  After a good shot, fans wave their finger pistols, making gun noises, while pretending to shoot in the sky.  Think Yosemite Sam from those Bugs Bunny cartoons.  That little dude has the best mustache!

I'm joking.  Don't get mad, I just found it amusing these other less followed sports shared the spotlight.  All of the hype has centered on the football program.  So, when the word came down, yes football is back, but let's talk about the triumphant return of bowling and riffle too.  C'mon, that's funny, isn't it?

Those three sports were originally victims of budget cuts, and apparently the addition of private funds made a return possible.

University of Alabama at Birmingham President Ray L. Watts commented:

A public-private partnership like this for university athletics is unprecedented and is the result of a lot of hard work, study, input and commitment from many,” Watts said. “We gathered input from students, faculty, staff, alumni, donors, city and government officials, and business leaders in the community.

Congrats to the Blazers!  You have one of the best logos with that fire breathing dragon, and will soon have a football team competing in Conference USA, plus bowling and riffle teams.

And now, I present to you these fine moments in bowling history!
