We asked our listeners to name the best parks in and around Tuscaloosa, and the results are in...

We're looking for the best spaces and places in West Alabama with the first-ever B101.7 and Pepsi Buzzie Awards. Pepsi is a Southern Original--and just like Pepsi, Tuscaloosa is one-of-a-kind. We're honoring Tuscaloosa's favorites with this year's Buzzies--and we've asked our listeners and readers to join the fun by nominating their faves to be featured in the 2015 Buzzies.

We asked y'all to name your favorites on our Facebook page, and... drumroll please... Tuscaloosa's favorite parks are Capitol Park, the Tuscaloosa Riverwalk, and Sokol Park!

Capitol Park, located in Downtown Tuscaloosa, is a beautiful and historic site. Take a stroll around the perfectly manicured lawn and as you walk through the park, you'll see columns and pieces of a wall--those are what remains of the old Capitol Building. In case you fell asleep during Alabama History, here's a quick refresher: Tuscaloosa was the capitol of our state from 1826-1847. Capitol Park is a great place to learn about the past, and the park is also a hot spot for weddings and family portrait sessions.

PARA's Sokol Park is located in Watermelon Road in Northport. The park has something for everyone: walking trails, ball fields, bike trails, pump tracks, playground, a dog park, and much more! Sokol is also home to special events like the Color Run.

The Tuscaloosa Riverwalk is one of the city's greatest features. Walk, run, or bike across three miles of beautiful paths. You'll cross over wooden bridges and pass through wooded areas while enjoying the best views on the Black Warrior River. There are plenty of open areas and pavilions for families to picnic and play.

I thought I'd end this post with a nod to my favorite park: Monnish Park. This lovely little park is located at the corner of Hackberry and 15th in Tuscaloosa. It features a walking trail that includes special exercise equipment installed for public use and a covered pavillion for picnics and parties. My family loves this park because of its playground equipment. There are swings for little ones and big kids, and there are two separate playgrounds: a smaller, shorter one for toddlers and little children, and a bigger one for other kids. We frequent Monnish Park and have always had a great time.

I think you'll agree that Tuscaloosa is home to some of the best parks in Alabama. We'd be remiss if we didn't give a special shoutout to the City of Tuscaloosa and PARA for creating and maintaining such awesome facilities. We appreciate all of their hard work and tireless efforts to help make Tuscaloosa such a fun place to work and play!
