Taulia Tagovailoa Leads Maryland To First Victory
Taulia Tagovailoa did not start out the season the way he wanted to at Maryland. During his debut game for the Terps, Taulia threw for only 94 yards and threw three interceptions.
“We all have the responsibility of personally being accountable for what we put on tape and how we coach — players and coaches included,” Head Coach Locksley said. “There's no doubt in my mind that Lia took personal accountability for how he played on Saturday.” Locksley went on to say that he is "100 percent committed" to Taulia Tagovailoa as the starter for this season.
“We’re going to watch film and watch the mistakes,” Tagovailoa said after the season opener. “I have full faith in Coach Locks and our whole team that we’re going to come back better from this.”
Tagovailoa was quick to make a change in his performance, leading the Terrapins to their first victory Saturday against the Minnesota Golden Gophers.
Many expect Tagovailoa to be one of the best quarterbacks to come out of Maryland, considering the fact that he is kin to the Alabama legend, Tua Tagovailoa. With that being said, there is still an entire season ahead of the young quarterback and he has a lot to prove.
Tagovailoa had 26 completions throwing for 394 yards and three touchdowns as he led Maryland past Minnesota in overtime. You could definitely say that his performance this week far outweighs his performance against Northwestern last week.
Next Saturday, Maryland will be going up against the No. 18 Penn State. The week following, they will be playing the No. 3 Ohio State Buckeyes. The next two games will pose a big challenge on the team, Tagovailoa especially. Fans are eager to see how he plays against these two dominating teams coming up.
