HBO's True Detective is the best show I've seen since Mad Men--maybe even EVER. What do I do now that Season One is over? I hadn't watched the series at all until Friday. I saw several friends posting about the show on Facebook and thought I would check it out. I mean, it stars Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, so it had to be, at the very least, decent.

One episode in and I was hooked. I watched like five episodes in a row before I realized my husband might want to watch it, too--and then we spent the majority of the weekend binge-watching the entire season (all seven episodes). *Sidenote: I love you, Comcast. HBO On Demand is the bee's knees. You spoil me and I LOVE IT.

True Detective is one of the most well-written series I have seen in a long time. I'm not going to talk about plot lines or throw any spoilers around in case you haven't seen the show--maybe you're one of the bajillion people who suffered The Great HBO Go Crash of 2014 and couldn't watch the finale last night; it's cool--I'm not going to ruin it for you. I just want to talk about how perfect it is.

The acting is incredible. Matthew McConaughey just won an Oscar for Dallas Buyer's Club, and my money says dude scores an Emmy for True Detective. Woody Harrelson is impeccable as well. The series is set in Louisiana; its a beautiful backdrop for a haunting story. The series is perplexing and terrifying and amazing and... how am I going to watch something stupid like The Real Housewives of Some Rich Suburb after I've seen Rust Cohle debate the true nature of mankind?

What do I do now? If time is a flat circle, I guess I'm always watching the show somewhere... over and over again... I'm okay with that.

I started this post with the song that plays during True Detective's opening credits, "Far From Any Road," and I am finishing with the song that played at the end of the Season One finale, "The Angry River" by The Hat featuring Father John Misty and S.I. Istwa. If you need, me, I'll be listening to these songs on repeat all day.

And then I'm going home to rewatch the entire season.
