Report: My Chemical Romance Re-Enter the Billboard 200 Chart
My Chemical Romance album The Black Parade re-enters the Billboard 200 chart this week, its first such entry in over two years, according to an update from music data tracker Chart Data.
The feat should come as no surprise for listeners who aren't okay after learning of the influential emo act's long-awaited return planned for later this year. Evidently, fans' pleasure in the band's comeback is so great that it precipitated My Chemical Romance's reappearance on the record chart that ranks the 200 most popular music albums and EPs in the United States. "My Chemical Romance's 'The Black Parade' re-enters this week's Billboard 200, earning its first appearance in over 2 years (+100% in sales; @MCRofficial)," the site shared to Twitter early Monday (Nov. 11).
As Chart Data tracks in real-time, that would mean The Black Parade will show up on the Billboard 200 tally for the week ending Nov. 16. Kanye West's recent Jesus Is King leads the current Billboard 200 (dated Nov. 9). The chart also counts classics such as Queen's Greatest Hits, The Beatles' Abbey Road and Michael Jackson's Thriller interspersed among the current U.S. album rankings.
Last week, Slayer guitarist Gary Holt defended The Black Parade in an exclusive interview with Loudwire, inviting a fresh overview of the watershed rock opera among open-minded metalheads.
"I think every song is amazing," Holt said of the My Chemical Romance album first released in October 2006, 13 years to the month the Gerard Way-led band announced their reunion. "It's super ambitious, and I hear shades of Queen, Pink Floyd and Cheap Trick all over it."
After revealing an initial Dec. 20 performance in Los Angeles, My Chemical Romance added a show each in Australia, New Zealand and Japan. The group also unveiled the special guest who'll support the first concert. After Rage Against the Machine announced their reunion around the same time, both bands saw a spike in YouTube views.
