Possibility Of Isolated Thunderstorms This Afternoon & Evening
Possibility Of Isolated Thunderstorms This Afternoon & Evening
We have the potential for another afternoon and evening of active weather for the counties of our listening areas for our Townsquare Media radio station. I encourage you to be weather aware. Currently, we have a Hazardous Weather Outlook issued by the National Weather Service. In this outlook, the main concerns are “isolated severe thunderstorms are possible this afternoon and evening across all of Central Alabama. Damaging winds up to 60 mph and quarter size hail will be the main threats with any stronger storms.”
The Storm Prediction Center has most of our listening areas until a “marginal risk” for today. So, there is the possibility that some of these storms could produce gusty winds and small hail. It was reported to the National Weather Service that the round of storms yesterday produced wind gust to 39 miles per hour at the Tuscaloosa Airport.
Summertime weather in Alabama most often includes scattered afternoon storms, along with hot and humid days. Why? I will save you the long drawn out explanation, but it deals with the daytime heating and moist air masses. So, when you hear the term “scattered” injected into a forecast, it lends to a hit and miss nature of where the storms will take place. Summertime in Alabama, I always suggest that you keep an umbrella in the car because you don’t know when those showers will take place.
