Metchie Could Be Alabama’s Next Henry Ruggs
Over the past few years, Alabama has produced quite a few of the most elite wide receivers in the NFL today; a few of them include Julio Jones, Amari Cooper, and Jerry Jeudy.
The Crimson Tide have a great group of receivers this year with Jaylen Waddle, John Metchie III, Devonta Smith, and Slade Bolden seeing most of the action. However, Metchie has proven himself to be 'the guy' after making a big impact so far this season. The fact that he played in all 13 games behind Henry Ruggs as a freshman should say enough about Metchie's athleticism.
During Alabama's matchup against Texas A&M, Metchie led all the receivers with 181 yards and two touchdowns with only five catches.
“He got the opportunities today. He had one other one that we overthrew that would have been another big play. Very capable guy, he’s worked very hard, and this is something that is going to really help his confidence,” Saban said. “And also something that will help us develop confidence in him with his teammates. We need as many weapons as we possibly can. I was excited to see him have a great day today, it will be very good for him and us from a future standpoint.”
Metchie has definitely showcased great skills as a receiver at Alabama. His athleticism and "sneaky speed" (as Jaylen Waddle calls it) could help him become Alabama's next Henry Ruggs. But, he still has a lot to prove and many are expecting great things out of Metchie.
