Former Alabama Linebacker Arrested On Gun and Marijuana Charges

Former Alabama Crimson Tide linebacker Rolando McClain was arrested on Saturday, July 30 on on drug and weapons charges, according to WAFF in Huntsville. 

The Moulton Police Department pulled over the former national champion on Highway 157 for speeding. Upon approaching the vehicle an officer smelled marijuana, giving the officer probable cause to search his Mercedes.

The former first round draft pick, after being asked to exit the car, told officers about a gun. The officers found a handgun in the door pocket on the driver's side, McClain said the gun did not belong to him and according to police he did not have a license to carry a concealed weapon.

Officers also discovered marijuana inside a pouch of chewing tobacco after completing the search of the vehicle.

McClain was charged with second-degree possession of marijuana, speeding, and possession of a concealed weapon without a permit.

The police department also charged Detrick Mostello, the passenger, with second-degree possession of marijuana.

Unfortunately, McClain is no stranger to run-ins with the law as he was arrested in 2017 on gun and drug charges and additionally in 2011 for fighting.

McClain anchored the Crimson Tide defense in 2009 under head coach Nick Saban. Alabama went undefeated and won Saban's first national title in Tuscaloosa. McClain won the SEC Defensive Player of the Year, the Butkus Award and Jack Lambert Trophy in 2009.
