Decomposing Body Found on UA Property, Campus Not in Danger
Utility workers at the University of Alabama found a decomposing body on school property Wednesday afternoon, according to the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit.
Lt. Jack Kennedy, the VCU's assistant commander, said the utility workers discovered the body around 3 p.m. Tuesday and contact UAPD, who referred the case to the VCU.
Kennedy said the body was found in a wooded area on the outskirts of campus, far from any dorms, buildings or areas typically associated with the University.
The decomposing remains will be sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Montgomery for testing, autopsy and identification.
Kennedy said the VCU's initial investigation has not found any reason to believe there is any danger or threat to the University of Alabama campus, its students or the surrounding area.
