‘Daddy’s Home 2’ Holiday Trailer: There Are So Many Dads in This Movie
Just in time for the start of the holiday season, it’s the final Daddy’s Home 2 trailer — this time featuring even more zany hijinks, more Will Ferrell klutzy antics, and more Mark Wahlberg zingers, all with a dash of the Christmas spirit. (Wahlberg has some seriously spot-on comedic timing btw. That guy should try stand-up.)
And, of course, the big hook here is we meet the grandpas, played by Mel Gibson and John Lithgow. Their dynamic is established right away when Lithgow (Ferrell’s dad) tells the kids a classic dad joke about a duck’s “butt-quack,” which Gibson (Wahlberg’s dad) follows up with “Two dead hookers wash up on the shore—,” before being cut off just in time. Like father, like son, you see. And just in case that’s not enough dads, John Cena is back as well.
If the jokes are good and the set pieces work, this could be as big a hit as the first Daddy’s Home, which took in a somewhat stunning $150 million in 2015. (I just looked it up, and I was legit stunned it made that much.) The box office could really use a boost like that too, coming off the worst October in a decade.
Here’s the official synopsis:
Father and stepfather Dusty and Brad join forces to make Christmastime perfect for the children. Their newfound partnership soon gets put to the test when Dusty’s old-school, macho dad and Brad’s gentle father arrive to turn the holiday upside down.
Daddy’s Home 2 arrives in theaters November 10.
