Confirmed COVID-19 Cases Spike in Tuscaloosa County
The number of confirmed cases of the novel Coronavirus within Tuscaloosa County has almost doubled in the past two weeks. 558 confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been reported by the Alabama Department of Public Health, and 274 of those confirmed cases have been reported in the last 14 days.
The number of patients being treated at DCH for COVID-19 has also seen a significant increase. DCH Public Information Officer Andy North posted the latest case count update in the West Alabama COVID-19 Information Group on Facebook yesterday (May 25th). North shared the following data:
DCH internal counts as of 2:20 p.m. on 5/25/20:
- 63 inpatients are being treated for COVID-19.
- 18 inpatients who are positive for COVID-19 are being treated in the ICU.
- Eight who are positive for COVID-19 are on ventilators.
- 561 (cumulative) have tested positive for COVID-19 including individuals from the ED, triage tent and inpatient. These individuals are not necessarily in the hospital.
- 6,719 (cumulative) have tested negative at DCH sites.
- 106 inpatients (cumulative) who were positive for COVID-19 have been discharged.
- 29 inpatients (cumulative) who were positive for COVID-19 have died at DCH.
The graph below shows the number of patients who are receiving treatment for the novel Coronavirus at at DCH facility. The number of COVID-19 inpatients has doubled in the last week alone, rising from 32 on May 18th to 63 yesterday (May 25th).
"Everyone, as you will see the numbers have gone up quite a bit in the last few days. Due to the holiday we did not meet as the full COVID team today but will do so tomorrow and I am sure this will be a core item to address and evaluate," North said.
