City of Tuscaloosa Schedules Sixth Annual Waterfest for April 4 and 5

The sixth annual Waterfest Education Expo, a two-day educational and cleanup event, is scheduled for April 4 and 5 at Lake Tuscaloosa.

Residents of the City of Tuscaloosa and surrounding areas receive their drinking water from Lake Tuscaloosa, which is fed by the North River watershed. Waterfest provides an opportunity for local students and citizens to learn more about protecting and conserving the local water supply.

Since the start of Waterfest and lake cleanup, more than 700 volunteers have participated and removed 67,500pounds of trash and debris from Lake Tuscaloosa and North River.

Waterfest begins Friday at an education expo at the Phelps Activity Center at 9:30am and ends at 1:30pm. Local experts and City officials will present and demonstrate how and why Lake Tuscaloosa and North River watershed are important to the community. Friday’s expo welcomes multiple fourth grade classes from local schools, but is also open to the general public.

Saturday’s lake cleanup event begins at 8am at the Highway 43 Binion Creek boat landing. Local citizens with boats are encouraged to volunteer and help collect debris from Lake Tuscaloosa. Bags will be provided to assist with the cleanup. The lake cleanup is open to all, and there will be raffle prizes, t-shirts, snacks and drinks available to registered participants.
