Cedric Bixler-Zavala on Potential for Mars Volta Reunion: ‘It’s Happening’
After a few recent teases, singer Cedric Bixler-Zavala has revealed that the Mars Volta have ended their split. The singer has offered a few hints this month that something might be going on with the band, but during a recent Twitter exchange with a fan, the vocalist stated, "It's happening."
The comment that generated the response was a fan saying he dreamed of the band resuming after seeing what he and Omar Rodriguez-Lopez had done since reuniting their pre-Mars Volta band At the Drive In.
Another fan had asked earlier this month if the singer had ever considered doing a De-Loused in the Comatorium tour, which led Bixler-Zavala to respond, "But I tell you what. We are in the kitchen finding new ways to through curve balls."
Another hint came at the beginning of May when a fan revealed to Bixler-Zavala that he had missed a La Butcherettes performance. At that point he responded, "Man !!!! WTF ! I miss their bikini kill opening slot then I find out they played a wrestling event last night!?! To be fair I was in the studio working on music w the Puerto Rican Bernie Sanders." Some took that to mean Rodriguez-Lopez, but given their membership in At the Drive In, it wasn't an instant conclusion that the Mars Volta was the project they were working on.
The Mars Volta split in early 2013 after Rodriguez-Lopez put the band on hiatus in 2012 following their touring. Bixler-Zavala announced the split in January 2013, but the two musicians reunited for At the Drive In's return in 2015.
