Avril Lavigne Shares Details on ‘Raw,’ ‘Powerful’ Comeback Album
Avril Lavigne's ready to supply you with more of the best damn thing.
The "Complicated" singer, whose most recent fifth studio album dropped nearly five years ago, said in a January 21 tweet — which served as a response to a fan question — that her next collection of work will take her in a number of new directions.
"Personal, dear, intimate, dramatic, raw, powerful, strong and unexpected. This record is a true emotional journey," she noted.
Lavigne previously noted on Christmas Day 2016 that her new album would likely drop in 2017, and that artistic expression had helped her to escape the horrors of living with Lyme Disease.
"I'm really happy to announce that I am now working on new music and I will be releasing a new album in 2017. I can't wait to open up and share my heart with you! I'm excited for you guys to hear the new songs. It's going to be an amazing 2017!" she wrote.
She also told Billboard in 2017: "I enjoy listening to Ed Sheeran and Shawn Mendes — artists that showcase their vocals and songwriting skills. I listen to a lot of Billie Holiday, Frank Sinatra and jazz," adding that she's "going back to my roots a little bit... I got my start in church and at country fairs when I was a young child, and I think those earlier influences are definitely coming out now."
