Alabama Quarterback Prospect Blows Past Competition at Elite 11
The 2023 recruiting class contains one of the biggest names in the game of football in No. 1 overall player, Arch Manning. The 5-star quarterback from the state of Louisiana has commanded all the headlines as colleges court, what appears to be, college football's next big thing.
Alabama has been right in the thick of the race for Manning's commitment but does the Crimson Tide have its sights set on a different Louisiana quarterback in the class?
Enter Eli Holstein out of Zachary, Louisiana. The 6-foot-4 quarterback is considered a 4-star prospect by 247Sports and rated as the No. 8 quarterback in the class by evaluators.
Holstein already has offers from Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Ohio State and numerous other high profile programs.
The rising senior recently went to the notorious Elite 11 quarterback camp and put on a show-stopping performance in Las Vegas. The Louisiana-native tested off the charts athletically and earned the top testing rating in the entire camp.
To compare Holstein's 133.56 rating to other quarterbacks Crimson Tide fans are familiar with, Tua Tagovailoa scored a 95.13, Mac Jones scored a 84.45 and Jalen Hurts scored a 82.71.
Holstein helped Zachary High School to a 15-0 record and a Louisiana 5A state championship as a junior, he was offered a scholarship by the Crimson Tide in June of 2021 and has since made a handful of visits to Tuscaloosa to check out The Capstone.
In his championship campaign he passed for 3,228 yards and 30 touchdowns while rushing for another 523 yards and 14 touchdowns.
Speculation has been growing that Alabama may be backing off pursuit of Manning in favor of Holstein in the 2023 class. 247Sports recruiting analyst Hank South has already put in a Crystal Ball Prediction for Holstein to choose the Crimson Tide.
