Flashback Friday Spotlight on Alanis Morissette’s ‘Jagged Little Pill’ Turning 20
In the B101.7 Flashback Friday Spotlight this week is Alanis Morissette. This weekend is the 20th anniversary for the release of the album, "Jagged Little Pill."
She caught our attention with all that rage and energy in break up lead single, "You Oughta Know!" This mother of all breakup songs came long before Carrie Underwood sang about keying the car of an ex.
Alanis Morissette drew lots of praise from the critics and would go on to win the 1996 Grammy Award for Album of the Year. At the time, the 21 year old Canadisn singer was the youngest to do so. That is until Taylor did it as a 20 year old in 2010.
Looking back on the summer of 1995, this was my go to CD. I really thought it would wear down to the point it wouldn't play anymore. Is that even possible? Well, luckily that didn't happen. This really is one of the most significant albums of the 90s! I'd even say among my Top 3 for the decade, with Nirvana "Nevermind" and Pearl Jam "Ten."
Kyle Anderson of EW remarked:
Jagged Little Pill is one of the only three truly “important” rock albums of the 1990s, and like Nirvana’s Nevermind and Radiohead’s OK Computer, it became hallowed on its own terms and spawned countless imitators, none of whom were ever able to capture the energy and singularity of Morissette’s vision.
