Alabama's annual Sales Tax Holiday means big savings on back-to-school shopping, but not everything is tax-fee this weekend. Check out the surprising items that aren't exempt this sales tax holiday!

Watch the video above for a quick rundown of items that are still taxable during Alabama's sales tax holiday. One major bummer for parents: sports, dance, and band equipment are still taxable this weekend; that means everything from cleats to tutus and flutes to footballs are still subject to state and local taxes. Another tough break: eyeglasses, contact lenses, sunglasses, goggles, and safety glasses are NOT exempt, which means you'll be shelling out cash to cover the tax.

Here's a list of the items we displayed in the video:

  • glasses and contacts
  • computer PARTS
  • cell phones
  • sports equipment
  • dance shoes
  • band instruments
  • cosmetics
  • hair accessories
  • sewing tools and materials
  • books (more than $30 each)

Alabama's tenth annual Sales Tax Holiday begins at 12:01 a.m. Friday, August 7, 2015 and ends Sunday, August 9, 2015 at 12 midnight.  If you want to see the full list of exempt and taxable items from the Alabama Department of Revenue, click HERE.
