Walk Off Those Thanksgiving Pounds at These Great Alabama Parks
I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday. Even though 2020 has been an insane year due to the pandemic, we should be thankful.
If you are still dragging from that big Thanksgiving Celebration, be sure to get out and get your walk on. During a Thanksgiving meal, the “average American may consume more than 4,500 calories and a whopping 229 grams of fat during Thanksgiving,” according to the Calorie Council. That’s just the meal, the calories don’t “include snacking and the traditional Thanksgiving dinner, not breakfast or late evening munching,” noted the Calorie Council.
You can walk off those holiday pounds at some of our great parks in Alabama. I love Annette M. Shelby Park and Snow Hinton Park. These parks have excellent tracks, friendly people, and great for people watching too.
Lace-up your sneakers and head over to Annette M. Shelby Park. You can find it at 1614 15th Street in Tuscaloosa. This walking paradise was super clean; folks were practicing social distancing, super comfy benches along the walking path, and there was ample parking. It is such a cute park, and this is a walker’s paradise because the walking trails are pretty level and free of debris.
You can find a larger walking track at Snow Hinton Park, 1000 Hargrove Road East in Tuscaloosa. This park is packed with tons of amenities too. The playground is a treasure for kids of all ages. The walking track is a “lighted, paved 1-mile outdoor walking trail,” according to PARA.
Good luck walking off those Thanksgiving meal pounds. If you find some other great parks, let me know on Instagram @MaryKRadio
