With the new surge of "Russian Rap", Vladimir Putin ain't about it. He released a statement last week saying, "rap is based on three pillars: sex, drugs and protest, which will lead to the degradation of the nation."

I don't think Vlad gets the sub-culture. Imagine this dystopia for me, rap doesn't exist, we only listen to hip-hop boy bands and white guys are wearing durags. Not a pleasant sight to see. Seems like the early 2000's am I right? Despite heavy debate over the specific extent of raps ability to influence a society, the fact remains that the Hip Hop Nation developed in the nineties retains heavy cultural significance and should therefore be regarded seriously and with due consideration in any conversation about recent progressions in U.S. culture that might even apply to Russian culture with the Ukrainian/Russian stand-off that is very much similar to the LA riots that happen in the 90's.
