‘Veep’ Confirms Season 7 Hiatus for Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Cancer Treatment
It wasn’t long after Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ sixth Emmy victory lap that we learned troubling news of the Veep star’s breast cancer. Treatment has been progressing in good spirits, though executive producers have now confirmed that the seventh and final HBO season will put off filming to accommodate Louis-Dreyfus’ good health.
Per Deadline, executive producer Frank Rich acknowledged in a SiriusXM interview that while Louis-Dreyfus has attended a few spirited table-reads, production on Season 7 has indeed been held for the actress’ ongoing treatment. Louis-Dreyfus announced her diagnosis over Twitter in late September, while Rich confirmed that production was to have resumed by now:
We’re obviously postponing production of the show — we were supposed to have started now — while she’s in treatment. But the expectation is that we will shoot again. We have one more season we’re doing, which we’re incredibly excited about. […]
Rather impressively, while we wait for her to gather her full strength around her treatment, we’ve been having with the cast in Los Angeles table reads of scripts for the final season as they’re ready. So, It’s been quite something because she’s fighting a serious, what is for anybody, a real illness. And yet, wants to keep working as much as circumstances allow without being crazy about it.
Check out a few of her updates in the meantime:
HBO had previously confirmed that the health scare had nothing to do with its decision to end Veep after its seventh season. It had also been reported that Veep likely wouldn’t premiere in time for the 2018 Emmy cutoff, denying Julia Louis-Dreyfus the chance to compete for a seventh straight Emmy win (nothing wrong with six).
We’ll keep wishing Julia well in the meantime, so stay tuned for the latest on Veep’s final season.
