USGS Reports 2.9 Magnitude Earthquake in Fayette County
The United States Geological Survey is reporting that a 2.9 Magnitude earthquake shook Fayette County near Berry, Alabama Thursday morning.
According to a short report from the USGS, the quake was detected at 11:16 a.m. Thursday.
The epicenter of the earthquake was around 3 miles southeast of Berry and 34 miles north of Tuscaloosa, the USGS said.
Any quake under a 3.0 magnitude is difficult to feel on the ground and only one person has reported feeling the Thursday tremor on the USGS website.
Similarly small seismic events have been reported around Winfield and Jasper in recent years.
