According to Tuscaloosa Police, a traffic stop on Monday, March 12 yielded 15 pounds of high-grade marijuana with a street value of $52,000.

An email from TPD states

...the West Alabama Narcotics Task Force with the assistance of ATF concluded a three month investigation into the trafficking of large quantities of marijuana from Atlanta, GA to Tuscaloosa.  A Hyundai Elantra driven by Gordon, attempted to elude officers but was stopped near Exit 80 on South I-20/59. A Dodge Challenger driven by Warren was trailing the vehicle driven by Gordon was stopped after exiting the interstate.  As agents approached the Hyundai a strong odor of raw marijuana was emitting from inside. A K-9 Drug Detection Dog was deployed and alerted on the vehicle.  Agents recovered 15 lbs. of high grade marijuana valued at $52,500 from the back seat.

Thirty-one-year-old Gordon Shannon of Ellenwood, GA and thirty-year-old Jeffery Lee Warren of Atlanta, GA were arrested on a charge of Trafficking in Marijuana and held in Tuscaloosa County Jail on a $1.5 million bond each.

It is unclear how officers gathered that the two men were traveling together in separate vehicles.  What IS clear is that the West Alabama Narcotics Task Force isn't playing about removing illegal substances from our communities.
