Tuscaloosa Police Officer Dornell Cousette Honored At Candlelight Vigil
Last night (Thursday, September 19th) there was a beautiful candlelight vigil hosted by the City of Tuscaloosa for fallen officer Dornell Cousette. It was a held at Government Plaza in Downtown Tuscaloosa where blue lights brightened the pillars on what was a comfortable and breezy evening. Hundreds from the Tuscaloosa community gathered to honor the slain Tuscaloosa Police Officer. I was grateful to be in the presence of our community along with my sister stations 105.1 The Block, Alt 107.7, and 95.3 The Bear of Townsquare Media. There were several speakers that included Cousette’s brother, Sgt. Sanders, and our Mayor Walt Maddox. As the candles glimmered during the moment of silence, I reflected on what this means to the city of Tuscaloosa. In my opinion, the evening speakers and discussion among those gathered gave me an overall theme for a need of unity within our communities to end the violence. It truly was a heartfelt ceremony that honored the life, legacy, and heroism of Officer Cousette.
