The Tuscaloosa Police Department on Monday shot and killed two dogs and wounded another after an elderly woman was attacked by pit bulls in the Carriage Heights apartment complex, according to a police spokeswoman.

Lt. Teena Richardson said officers were called to the scene of a dog attack in the 1800 block of Carriage Heights Monday morning.

Richardson said an elderly woman there had been attacked by four pit bulls, who police found and opened fire on.

Two of the dogs were killed, one was wounded and the fourth escaped, Richardson said.

The victim of the attack was taken to DCH Regional Medical Center with injuries that Richardson said were not life-threatening.

Richardson said police are still working to locate the owners of the animals.
