Tuscaloosa Habitat For Humanity Pays It Forward For Pickens County

In February, an EF-2 tornado touched down in Pickens County and caused widespread damage to buildings and homes.

Habitat for Humanity in Tuscaloosa wants to help the victims rebuild and is actively raising money to build two homes in the hardest hit area near Sapps Road in Pickens County.

Executive Director Ellen Potts says returning the good will to the rural community after the the kindness shown to Tuscaloosa after the April 27, 2011 storms just made sense.

“We have been so fortunate for people to donate to us and spend their time with us volunteering on our job sites to help us rebuild Tuscaloosa,” Potts told WIAT. “We feel the obligation to a neighboring county to help and go assist them with tornado relief.”

Habitat for Humanity has already raised $20,000 and hopes to raise an additional $70,000 so that new home construction can begin by June.
