A woman was shot and killed in Tuscaloosa County Tuesday evening and a suspect has turned himself in to police.

Captain Gary Hood, the commander of the Tuscaloosa County Violent Crimes Unit, said sheriff's deputies were called to 2300 Crabtree Road around 5:45 p.m. Tuesday. Inside, they found 38-year-old Warkeisha Renata Caddell lying dead with what appeared to be a gunshot wound.

Hood said a man contacted police shortly after and claimed responsibility for the killing. He is in police custody, and the Violent Crimes Unit is interviewing him, talking to witnesses and processing the crime scene.

Hood said investigators currently believe the shooting stemmed from what he called "a domestic violence situation."

More information will be released as it becomes available.
