Tuscaloosa City Schools Superintendent Mike Daria Contracts COVID
Days before full-time, in-person instruction is set to resume at Tuscaloosa City Schools, superintendent Mike Daria has tested positive for COVID-19, a spokeswoman for the system confirmed Thursday morning.
Lesley Bruinton, the school system's director of public relations, said Daria is resting at home but is in good condition.
She said his diagnosis will not affect plans for students to return to classrooms full-time Monday.
According to the TCS Real-Time COVID Tracker, 49 students have tested positive for the virus so far this academic year, and 19 of those are considered active cases. 271 students are currently quarantined or in isolation because of potential contact with a confirmed positive case.
15 TCS employees have active cases of COVID-19, and 87 are quarantined or isolated -- around 6 percent of the 1,439 faculty and staff employed by the system.
