Tuscaloosa County Park & Recreation Authority announces a collaboration with the Tuscaloosa YMCA for an Opening Day Jamboree for the Tuscaloosa Baseball League on May 1, played on Hughes Center ballfields located at 3101 MLK, Jr. Boulevard.
“We are each bringing our assets to the league to produce better all-around programming for local families,” said Jay Logan, Director of Athletics, Community Outreach and Senior Programs. “What better way to bring unity and provide all around programming for local families than to share assets and resources in the community together.”
“We’re inviting the entire city of Tuscaloosa to come out for a morning of fun! Baseball is back in west Tuscaloosa,” said LaKeda Smith, YMCA Barnes Executive Director.
An Opening Ceremony with first pitch is set for 8:30 a.m. Local elected officials and sponsors are expected to be in attendance. Sponsors of the league include Alabama One Credit Union, Michelle Coley Agency, The City Council of Tuscaloosa, and Tuscaloosa County Commission.
A full schedule for play is set to begin at 9 a.m. with the last game scheduled to begin at 12:15 p.m. The league features Tee Ball, and approximately 10 teams with players ages 6U, 8U, 10U and 12U.
Kick off the month of May by welcoming baseball back to West Tuscaloosa! I'm sure a lot of kids in the community would have a lot of fun and benefit from the lessons learned by playing team sports.
