If you planned to have a drink to forget about the inconveniences of the coronavirus, you just may have to go a little farther to get your bottle.  Three of metro Tuscaloosa's six ABC stores will be closed while this threat remains.

The Tuscaloosa News reports, "the stores on University Boulevard East in Cottondale, McFarland Boulevard East near Harper Road in Northport and Alabama Highway 69 South near Winn Dixie will close at the end of business Tuesday. However, the store on McFarland Boulevard, the one on Lurleen Wallace Boulevard near downtown Tuscaloosa and the wholesale-only store on Whigham Circle will remain open. The two stores open to the public will operate from noon until 7 p.m. while wholesale hours will remain the same."

To add to this, the stores will now operate similar to restaurants where your order is taken, and the product is retrieved and purchased. Customers will no longer walk through and select their items to be taken to the register. Full story.

It will be interesting to see how things change after this pandemic.  When there's no longer a threat, will stores maintain some policies for the health of their employees and to allow time for proper cleaning? Will people still be washing their hands as often?  Will the other ABC stores reopen?

Right now, everything is so uncertain; but we can be sure that US and state health officials are doing all they can to keep the virus from spreading.  So, it's time to hunker down.
