Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa resumed throwing on Monday according to head coach Brian Flores. Tagovailoa will remain out this week against against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but is expected to return to the Dolphins for their Oct. 17 matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London when he's eligible to be activated from injured reserve.

"He's working to get back as soon as he can," said Flores. " He's starting to throw a little bit. We're just taking this one day at a time. I would say...look, he's getting better every day."

Tagovailoa suffered fractured ribs on Sept. 19 against the Buffalo Bills. The injury was initially considered day-to-day, but then Miami placed Tagovailoa on injured reserve the following Saturday. Since Tagovailoa's injury the Dolphins have lost three consecutive games with Jacoby Brissett under center. On Sunday, Miami compiled just 203 yards of offense, including -7 in the second quarter during their 27-17 loss against a winless Indianapolis Colts team.

Without Tagovailoa, the Dolphins offense has suffered, they are currently ranked 31st in yards per game, scoring and passing yards per play; 32nd in yards per play; 28th in rushing; and 30th in passing.

"I think from the standpoint, the collaboration and preparation, it's not like I've gone into a game plan saying I don't like what we're doing," said Flores. "We just haven't been able to execute."

In his only full start this season, Tagovailoa went 16-of-27 for 202 yards and a touchdown in Miami's 17-16 victory over the New England Patriots in week one.
