Top 10 Bands Named After ‘The Simpsons’
The Simpsons is arguably the most influential and quotable TV show of the last 30 years. With so many years having passed since the dysfunctional family’s debut, multiple generations have grown up obsessing over The Simpsons… so much so that dozens of bands have named themselves after the iconic cartoon.
One of the biggest bands in the world — Fall Out Boy — is famously named after Radioactive Man’s kid sidekick. Fallout Boy was most notably portrayed by Milhouse in Season Seven, when the blue-haired dweeb was chosen to play the character in a Radioactive Man movie. After releasing From Under the Cork Tree in 2005, Fall Out Boy overtook Fallout Boy in name recognition, becoming even more of a household name than the Simpsons character.
The connection between Thrice and The Simpsons is a hazy one, but anyone who grew up in the ‘90s will tell you Mr. Burns introduced them to the word “thrice.” While coaching his power plant’s baseball team, Mr. Burns gave Homer Simpson a range of signals, including, “If I want you to bunt, I will touch my belt buckle not once, not twice, but thrice.” “Thrice” is actually an extremely old word meaning “three times,” dating back to 12th century England.
For some reason, Simpsons references completely overran the world of ska. Beyond bands naming songs after the show, I Voted for Kodos dubbed themselves after one of The Simpsons’ glass-encased extraterrestrials. Psychobilly also showed plenty of love for the yellow ones, including Mad Marge and the Stonecutters, who delivered a double dose of references with their lengthy moniker.
