I know for a fact there are at least three people in Tuscaloosa who don’t like me. It’s all because I did this.

One day, I decided to take a quick trip to Subway for lunch. I had about thirty minutes to grab some food. I was not prepared for what would happen inside that Subway.

As soon as I walk in, I see a gentleman ordering his food and a woman behind him in line. I assumed she was waiting to order next.  Since COVID, I’ve always taken notice of how many people were inside wearing masks.  It just so happens that the gentleman order did not have a mask on, but the workers and the woman behind him did.

As for me, I didn’t have on my mask.

I made sure to keep my distance from everyone and waited in line. After about 1 minute of waiting, my throat felt scratchy and I coughed. Oh no! That’s like the worst thing you can do these days right?

The woman reacted as if I had just coughed up a virus that wipes out all existing life forms. I was low-key offended.

She then proceeded to ask me, “Do you have your mask?”

I chuckled and responded, “No ma’am, I don’t.”

After our brief exchange, it was my turn to order. The employee acted as if he didn’t want to serve me. He just walked away and started wiping the counter then stood at the register.  He walks over to me and asks ” Sir do you have a mask?”

I asked, “Did the gentleman in front of me have on a mask?” He responded, “I don’t recall, but do you have a mask?”

The woman jumped to my defense and said “No he didn’t.”

I began giving my order and I see the woman behind me recording me on her cell phone. WOW! Is that what we’re doing?!

After getting my order and turning to walk out, I see her recording me and addressing it. She ignored it and I just left it alone. She tried to start small talk with me but we didn’t talk long. I walk out and she says, “Make sure you wear that mask baby. It ain’t over til GOD says its over!”

Ok. So I completely understand where she’s coming from but ma’am, YOU DON’T KNOW ME! Literally, earlier that week a negative COVID test. Also, why record me? It wasn’t that serious. I’m sure the people in that store that day are running around Tuscaloosa talking about this anti-masker guy who refused to wear a mask at Subway and was “coughing everywhere.”

Could I have had my mask that day? Yes, absolutely. I just don’t like the treatment I received with them assuming I had COVID. Especially when the previous gentleman didn’t have a mask and they were making jokes together as I walked in.

In your opinion, who was more wrong, the woman and employee, or was it me? Let me know inside the chat feature of our free app.
